Finnish Posti is to open the largest parcel locker unit in Europe at the beginning of next month.
The new parcel locker unit will be at the Munkkivuori shopping centre in Helsinki and will be an OmaPosti kiosk in a space already leased by the postal operator. It will then have 1,002 lockers in the unit and be the largest in Europe as well as one of the largest in the world.
Finland, China and Germany have the largest parcel locker units in the world. Finns are known to like parcel lockers in preference to home delivery, with 87% of the population choosing to have parcels delivered through them in 2020 as against a global average of 40% in the same year.
“The Parcel Locker capacity and parcel routing are among our most important development areas this year. We constantly monitor the situation in different areas and customer feedback concerning parcel pickup and search actively for new customer-serving solutions. The expansion in Munkkivuori is a good example of this,” said Arttu Hollmérus, SVP parcel and e-commerce at Posti.
